Product introduction
A wonderful yet surprising new field has been pioneered by Tim Hodgkinson, who has carried out numerous music projects, starting with Henry Cow, and Kamura Atsuko, who was active in the Polka Dot Fire Brigade, Frank Chickens, etc. “Haiku In The Wide World” is a revolutionary musical form that incorporates haiku sung by Kamura and Hodgkinson in Japanese and English within the framework of music composed by Hodgkinson and “expands” it into a diverse and varied set of instrumental music. A revolutionary work combining haiku and music by Tim Hodgkinson and Kamura Atsuko, famous for Henry Cow!!
This work lovingly takes the texts of 37 haiku from the 17th century to the 20th century, admires the Japanese literary form, which has a long history, brings these short verses into the realm of music and art, and places them within an expanded network of interrelationships between sounds. In the performance, Hodgkinson's own clarinet, French horn, viola, violin, cello, and acoustic guitar are used, and clearly recorded sound sources are used. The sounds of voices and instruments merge with poetic images, and each one casts light, casts shadows, reveals hidden meanings, and resonates with the overall body of the work. The musical phraseology that Hodgkinson chose in composing has a wide range in line with the diverse and rapid world developments seen in rhetoric such as arranging and arranging the main songs of haiku, and the methods of consecutive singers. Furthermore, Japanese and English translations of haiku provide an additional layer of meaning, resonance, and communication. An exchange with the English poet Harry Gilonis, who sent the English translation of the haiku to Hodgkinson, led to the beginning of this project. This is an unrivaled work that is clearly different from what Hodgkinson and Kamra have achieved so far. Hodgkinson's explanation, which spells out the origins of “Haiku In The Wide World,” is also a must-read. The content is the same for both the CD version and the 2-disc LP version. Japanese version jacket.
